Stephen is an experienced risk, governance and assurance professional having worked in higher and further education, local government and the civil service for 20 years. He holds an MSc in Research Methodology and is an advocate for the critical role risk management plays in effective decision making and good governance. Currently he is a Senior Manager for Risk and Assurance at the Open University, a world leader in distance learning, the OU has almost 200,000 and is the largest academic institution in the UK. He has also worked at two further education colleges in a governance role and has spent several years as a scrutiny officer managing inquiries and helping County Councillors hold the executive to account.
Having greatly enjoyed his post 16 study at a further education college in Wales, he is passionate about further education and its role in helping people from disadvantaged backgrounds reach their full potential.
