  • Is this course for you?

These courses are designed for plumbers and heating engineers seeking to install Vented and Unvented Domestic Hot Water Storage Systems in compliance with relevant Building Regulations and Standards. There are two separate manuals: one for England and Wales, and another for Scotland, to account for differences in regulations between the two regions.

The manual for England and Wales covers Approved Document G3, Part L1, and Part P of the Building Regulations, while the Scottish manual refers to Part J of the Building Standards.

  • Required qualifications

There are no mandatory qualifications, but learners should have a working knowledge in plumbing or conventional heating engineering, or a demonstrable number of years of relevant experience.

  • What skills will I develop?

This course is tailored for plumbing and heating engineers who wish to install Domestic Hot Water Storage Systems and need to demonstrate their expertise in doing so. By completing the course, participants will be able to verify their competence, which opens up two key pathways.

Firstly, they can apply to join a Competent Persons’ Scheme (CPS), allowing them to self-certify that their installations meet all required building regulations without the need for further approval. Alternatively, for those who choose not to join a CPS or where it is not applicable, the course equips them with the necessary knowledge and skills to properly notify the local Building Control department before starting any installation work. This ensures all installations are carried out in compliance with the relevant regulations and standards.

  • Other important information

This is a 5 year renewable course. If your current qualification has run out, or is about to run out, please contact us to book on the next available course.
