    The T Level in Animal Care offers a unique blend of formal education and practical industry experience. Core subjects such as sustainability, business, communication, Health and Safety, and finance provide a solid foundation, complemented by hands-on work placements over two years. If you’re aspiring to work in the animal industry, the Animal Management pathway focuses on practical skills for animal husbandry, nutrition, and welfare in various settings, from domestic pets to zoo animals and wildlife centres. This specialised T Level in Animal Management prepares you for careers like trainee veterinary nurse or laboratory work.

    The course structure includes 70% classroom learning and 30% hands-on activities, including experiences at our Animal Zone and industry placements.

    This T Level course will help you boost your employment prospects by gaining extensive experience on a work placement in a real-world environment.

    Your T Level will be worth UCAS points – a T Level Distinction* is worth the same as 3 A Levels at A* (168 points) – and will be recognised by universities and other education providers so you can choose to continue studying if you wish.

  • Required qualifications

    You will need five GCSEs at Grade 5 or above, including Maths, English, and Science. Alternatively, if you have a Level 2 qualification in Animal Care with Biology and Health units at distinction level and GCSEs in Maths and English at grade 4 or above, you are eligible.

  • What skills will I develop?

    Throughout the course, you’ll focus on understanding animal health, anatomy, physiology, biology, and behaviour, honing your skills for caring for diverse animals. The curriculum emphasizes ethical practices, conservation, and animal welfare, guiding your compassionate approach.

    Simultaneously, you’ll learn essential Health and Safety protocols, sustainability principles, and biosecurity techniques, ensuring safe, sustainable animal environments. Supply chain, stock management, and business organisation insights enhance your industry knowledge. Customer service and financial concepts refine your communication and resource management skills.

    By course end, you’ll possess a robust foundation in animal care, health, and safety, preparing you for a successful career in the animal industry.

  • Work experience

    You will be required to achieve a minimum of 315 hours in an industrial placement gaining meaningful work experience.

  • English and maths

    English, maths, and digital skills are embedded throughout the course content. Employability and study skills are taught alongside the core content.

  • Other important information

    Practical teaching and assessment will take place on our on-site zoo. To take part in these lessons you will need to be equipped with the correct PPE, which comprises of overalls/boiler suit and safety boots with a steel toe cap. All jewellery including piercings will need to be removed before you can take part in practical lessons for your own safety and the safety of the animals.

    There will be a range of trips and visiting speakers throughout the year including the opportunity to attend a study tour. Previous cohorts have visited South Africa and Wales.
