    Looking to improve on your maths qualification? Need a GCSE in maths to take the next step in your career or training?

    South Staffordshire College can give you the opportunity to take GCSE Maths as a part time course either in the day or evening around your current commitments.

    2.5 hours a week face to face teaching with the option to complete independent work in your own time, allowing you to complete this qualification in a year.

    You will be working alongside like-minded people in a proactive environment with professional and experienced maths tutors.

  • Required qualifications

    To access the GCSE course you will require a previous grade at GCSE, usually a D or 3 or a Level 1 or 2 Functional Skills qualification in Maths. Haven’t got a previous qualification? Don’t worry, we will provide you with a short initial assessment when you enquire, this will allow us to place you on the right level of course.

  • What skills will I develop?

    The course will allow you to progress towards grade 4 and above

    • You will undertake a range of engaging and fun activities in line with the EdExcel maths specification, which will improve your understanding and ability to:
    • Use number effectively, for instance fractions, decimals and percentages
    • Use algebra, including formula and graphs
    • Use Ratio, proportion and rates of change, including scale, rates of change and conversion of measurements
    • Use Geometry, for example calculating area, volume and perimeter
    • Use probability and statistics

    Not only will we get you exam ready but improve the skills above so that you can apply them to the world of work and life successfully.

  • Careers

    A GCSE Grade 4 or above opens many doors for you. You may be looking to continue your education by going to University and require this qualification for entry to the course. Job opportunities in all areas and promotion within your chosen career can also be more accessible with a GCSE Maths qualification.

    You may just want to improve on your previous qualifications for yourself, and why not!

  • Other important information

    The course concludes with three paper-based exams which are externally set by Edexcel and the dates of these exams are set by external agents. At present we have a provisional timetable for these exams which is subject to change.
