    This qualification is designed for learners who are interested in safely working in the automotive retail industry, particularly as hydrogen vehicles become more common. It introduces learners to safe working practices, potential dangers, and precautions needed around hydrogen vehicles.

  • Required qualifications

    The award provides foundational knowledge for non-technical roles, such as managers, valeters, parts and sales personnel, event staff, fleet managers, vehicle recovery personnel, dismantlers, damage assessors, insurance and vehicle hire companies, and hydrogen vehicle drivers. It complements existing industry experience and qualifications, helping learners to work safely in their roles.

    This qualification provides learners with the necessary knowledge to work safely around hydrogen vehicles. It includes a mandatory unit that covers the types of hydrogen vehicles, hazards related to their systems, and safe practices for working near them, including refueling. Upon completion, learners will have essential knowledge for safely interacting with hydrogen vehicles, though it does not address maintenance.

While electric vehicles may enable a short-term transition from fossil fuels to cleaner sources of energy, in the longer term hydrogen offers many more advantages. Hydrogen does come with some considerations and this programme offers an insight into how these vehicles may be used and introduced into everyday use over the coming years.
