  • Is this course for you?

You will be a plumber or heating engineer looking to expand your business offer through the installation of heat pumps. A heat pump works in a similar way to a boiler in a central heating system, but instead of burning fuel to generate heat, it uses naturally occurring heat from the ground or air outside. They are considered an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional heaters, as they release a lot less carbon dioxide. The two most common types of heat pump are air source and ground source.

  • Required qualifications

Learners should have a minimum NVQ Level 2/3 qualification in plumbing or conventional heating engineering, or a demonstrable number of years of relevant experience. Learners should also hold a qualification in Water Regs UK Water Regulations/Water Byelaws or equivalent.

  • What skills will I develop?

This is a nationally recognised qualification in the installation and maintenance of air source heat pump systems. The qualification is recognised by the Micro-generation Certification Scheme (MCS) registration bodies as an acceptable qualification to join one of their respective schemes.

  • Careers

This qualification enables a practising plumber or heating engineer to install and maintain air source heat pump systems and enables them to register on the MCS scheme with a registration body, enabling access to an industry-led quality assurance scheme that demonstrates to customers that your installation meets industry-expected quality.

  • Other important information

This qualification is designed for practising plumbers and heating engineers that are either qualified or can satisfy course tutors you have enough prior experience. You may need a qualification in Water Regulations or similar before being allowed to start the programme.
